Emergency Assistance Fund
As this global pandemic continues to evolve, our dedication to our mission has not wavered. Our frontline staff are working harder than ever to provide the best possible care for residents and help them cope with not seeing their loved ones. If you would like to support us, please consider contributing to our Emergency Assistance Fund.
Resident Benevolence enables seniors who have run out of personal funds, through no fault of their own, to remain in their home at Sunset. This fund provides an immeasurable relief to seniors in need, allowing them to continue living in their community with security and peace of mind.
A bucket list is a list of achievements or experiences that someone would want to accomplish in their lifetime. A “Silver” bucket list are similar to regular bucket list items except that they are sparked by the perspective of a life well lived and provide memories that can uplift generations.
“Silver” Bucket List
Honor the memory of a loved one with a gift in their name. Memorial donations allow those who have passed on to leave an everlasting gift and continue their support for any program here at Sunset Communities.
The Sunset Legacy Foundation strengthens long-term Sunset organizational health and directly impacts future programming and service growth at Sunset. The stronger the Legacy Foundation is, the more it can assist in providing for Sunset residents and clients.
Improving Sunset Communities
Waterford Place and many faithful donors are building a revolutionary memory care program right now in our own back yard. It is truly a blessing to be a part of this amazing program that is providing HOPE to people living with dementia NOW, in a spirit of Christian love.
Waterford Place Memory Care
Through Meals at Home, Sunset Communities extends our Continuum of Care beyond our facilities. Through donors' generosity, volunteers deliver nourishing meals to community members in need—aiding in proper diet and nutrition.

A growing community in need of support
Understanding and providing care at the individual level is our mission at Sunset Communities. We take pride in our ability and effort to address the specific needs of each resident with passion and higher quality of care. Doing so would not be possible without the love and support of our local West Michigan community. The generosity of our donors has allowed our organization to grow and improve our staff, facilities, and equipment—but we’re not finished yet. We still need the support of our community to continue our growth and deliver a Continuum of Care for all of those in need.

With your help, Waterford Place Memory Care will continue to change what it means to live with dementia.
As our journey of life comes to an end, we move on in hopes that our loved ones carry on our ideals and values into the future. Honorariums and memorial gifts allow for the family and friends of those who have passed on to do just that; to dedicate the memory of a loved one with a gift in their name.
Memorial donations can be gifted to a specific fund, illuminating the passions of the honoree. Each donation, no matter the size, is a significant contribution to Sunset Communities. Without the generosity of our donors, our efforts at each facility and throughout our community would not be possible.
Giving to Resident Benevolence
Life should never be a burden. Today, seniors are living longer than statistically anticipated, which is unquestionably a blessing. However, in some cases, a longer than expected life is causing stress and worry. A longer timeframe means that funds need be stretched further, which is hard for individuals with a fixed income. Such circumstances create a stressful situation where residents who can no longer afford facility costs could potentially lose their home. To combat these circumstances the Resident Benevolence fund was established.
Resident Benevolence enables seniors who have run out of personal funds, through no fault of their own, to remain and receive the care they need. Family members, home churches, staff, and community members are also asked to support this worthy cause. With the average age of fund recipients being 92, keeping their home would not be possible without the generosity of our donors.
Meals at Home
Sometimes we have to reach out to those in need of a helping hand. Our Meals at Home program is the transportation and delivery of proper nutrition and diet to those in need throughout our local community. Meals are prepped and cooked in our very own kitchen at Sunset Manor, with a health-first attitude.
A healthy diet delivers a variety of benefits like having more energy, less stress, and better sleep. Not to mention, a higher quality of life and health with regularly scheduled meals.
Mary O’Hara Scholarship
This scholarship supports Sunset Communities’ staff who are currently working towards a career as a nurse. However, recipients are not just Sunset staff members—they’re like-minded individuals who share our passion for delivering a higher quality of care to seniors. They’re dedicated workers who have recognized the growing need for licensed nurses within senior healthcare and are answering the call. Each recipient receives financial aid helping them cover the costs of nursing school, which would not be possible without the generosity of our donors.
This scholarship fund is organized and administrated in honor of Mary O’ Hara herself. Mary, a longtime nurse, was a resident at our very own Brookcrest Community until her homegoing. Being a strong supporter of encouraging young nurses, Mary’s memorial gifts were designated for the support of nursing students. Her act of generosity inspired the actions of others, thus creating the Mary O’ Scholarship; encouraging aspiring nurses to achieve excellence.
